Website Building Tips
OK your first question might be "who are you and why should I take SEO advice from you? Great question. Look at the search engine results page that you found this site on, if this site ranks good on the page then you'll want to read on. Or you could just type in "best advertising sites" and see if makemoneyteam.com pops up. If you can find me on page 1 for a few keyphrases then you might then feel you can trust my ideas.
The first thing I always do is think hard about the perfect title for the sites main page. I first make a good list of all the key-phrases that I want to target, then I do some Google-searches and determine the ones that have the highest number of search results, and using some free tools in My Google Adwords account I can see how much competition a keyword has, and therefore I can know how hard taking the number 1 spot on Google will be. I pick the key-phrases that have the least competition but still have some traffic going through them.
I now think of ways to include all of may favorite keywords or phrases onto one page title.
Example: If you used the title “best free vacation ideas and getaways” then a person searching might use “best vacation ideas” or “free vacation getaways” or even “best free ideas” the point is to get creative and find ways to have a title that has the most possible keyphrases within it somewhere. This will sort of cover all the bases without making the title ridiculously long. In my experience picking your title in this way makes the page do much better in the search engines. I normally only use this method on the main page of the website, and keep the titles for the inner pages of the site more simple.
I also like to pay close attention to the image alt tags. This is text that shows to a user who has images turned off in their browser or if the image fails to load. But this text is also considered a keyword to Googles bots so you should always put one good key-phrase in your alt tags. Do not stuff the tag full of keywords though or Google will consider it spam. Just put one to or three word phrase in there and this will help alot. People will stumble on your image in the Google images tool and end up at your website. Stay tuned for more tips later on this week.
